The world’s longest and fastest zip line is located in Icy Strait Point, Alaska.
I did it and survived to tell you all about it!
This ZipRider® zip line ride is the world’s longest and fastest zip line and it will literally take your breathe away. It is a once in a lifetime experience!
Once your cruise ship arrives at Icy Strait Point, you will disembark and be taken in a tour van up the mountain from the town of Hoonah until you reach the top station of the world’s longest and fastest zip line.
From this vantage point, you have a wonderful view of the mountains and your cruise ship; alot smaller from this vantage point. What’s scary about being up so high is that you cannot see the end of the zip line. Ok breathe, breathe……
There are 6 cables, side by side. You are harnessed into a chair and the chair is attached to your zip line. Once you are situated in your chair, there is a door in front of you, you place and rest your feet on the door, which eventually opens.
Once everyone has placed their feet on their door, one of the operators starts counting down……3…..2…….wait, wait, I want to get off, I want to get off…….1……it’s too late……the door flies open, and so do you!
You zip out of the gate, accelerating down the mountain and over a huge cliff, and you scream, scream, scream, and then it happens, you’re flying!
Yep, 65 miles per hour! You are zipping down the longest zip line in the world!
The wind hits your face so hard that your skin starts to flap and jiggle, so much so that your eyes start tearing. Your clothes also start to flap in the wind as you propel down the mountain on the longest, highest and fastest zip line in the world.
And then you get a little courage….and you stretch out your arms (a must!) and you move your legs (maybe). And then, you look around and realize wow, there are five other adrenaline junkies going down the mountain with you.
And you think, I am going to beat them down the mountain and be first. Why? Who knows – I think it’s a natural human reaction to want to be first. But then, reality hits and you realize, nope too afraid, and besides, you’re already tooling along at 65 mph!
So, instead, you start to enjoy the trip, sit back and relax, and take in the view of Port Frederick and the surrounding islands.
And then, after 1 ½ minutes, you end on the beach at Icy Strait.
And just like that, you conquered the World’s longest and fastest zip line! Congrats!! You did it!
And that was one of my most terrifying, exhilarating, incredible and most memorable things I’ve ever done. And no, I did not do it again.
So, if you are looking for an experience and adventure of a life time, look to Icy Strait Point in Alaska and check out the ZipRider®.
Be sure to make reservations in advance through your cruise line as this excursion books quickly.
